Indian classical music’s origins can be found in the Vedas, which are the oldest scriptures in the Hindu tradition. Indian classical music has also been significantly influenced by, or syncretised with, Indian folk music and Persian music.
The Samaveda, one of the four Vedas, describes music at length.
Our Mission
BARRACKPORE SANGEET SABHA – A MISSION
Barrackpore is a historic city. First Independent Movement during British regime known as Sepoy Mutiny started in 1857 from this place. The calm city is surrounded by holy river Ganges has several historic heritage building and an oldest army
cantonment of India.
We inhabitants feel proud as this city is bearing the foot-prints of Holy Mother Sarada, Swami Vivekananda & Mahatma Gandhi and many others. Rastraguru Surendranath Banerjee was born and breathed his last here.Barrackpore has a huge musical heritage as well. Ustads like Dabir Khan, Amir Khan, Bade Gulam Ali Khan,Vilayet Khan,Ali akbar Khan, Nazakat-Salamat Ali, Amjad Ali Khan, Allara khan and Pandit s like Ravishankar, Birju Maharaj, Nikhil Banerjee,
Samta Prasad, V.G.Jog, Gyanprakash Ghosh, A.T,Kanan are few legends among huge famous musical luminaries who performed for years together in this city.Despite sincere endeavour of different organizations this stream of classical music programmes could not be continued for last few years.

In the above backdrop BARRACKPORE SANGEET SABHA in the year 2015 ventured to promote classical music basing on ethics and spirituality. Since then We have organized two day long conferences in arena of two Historical places of Barrackpore,
one United Kingdom and another at Ramkrishna Mission Institute of Culture (Golpark) Kolkata. Generally we organize annual conference in January remembering the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Experience of huge enthusiasm of music
lovers in previous conferences always inspire us to move forward our activity in coming days as we believe,. True music lovers are invited warmly to be part of our organization.
