Music may be performed or improvised using a vast range of instruments, including the human voice.

What is classical music?

Classical music generally refers to the art music of the Western world, considered to be distinct from Western folk music or popular music traditions. It is sometimes distinguished as Western classical music, as the term “classical music” also applies to non-Western art music.

Barrackpore has a huge musical heritage as well. Ustads like Dabir Khan, Amir Khan, Bade Gulam Ali Khan,Vilayet Khan,Ali akbar Khan, Nazakat-Salamat Ali, Amjad Ali Khan, Allara khan and Pandit s like Ravishankar, Birju Maharaj, Nikhil Banerjee,
Samta Prasad, V.G.Jog, Gyanprakash Ghosh, A.T,Kanan are few legends among huge famous musical luminaries who performed for years together in this city.

Barrackpore is a historic city. First Independent Movement during British regime known as Sepoy Mutiny started in 1857 from this place. The calm city is surrounded by holy river Ganges has several historic heritage building and an oldest army
cantonment of India.

We inhabitants feel proud as this city is bearing the foot-prints of Holy Mother Sarada, Swami Vivekananda & Mahatma Gandhi and many others. Rastraguru Surendranath Banerjee was born and breathed his last here.
